  1. Where is the male. What will happen if she is doing this alone? Will someone provide food? I read she will abandon the eggs if she doesn’t have food.

  2. Has a male moved in..since Maverick is gone now? 🙁 I LOVE being able to watch the nest!! Ive followed the Falcons for YRS..

    • Mistic is bigger. And JoJo seems to be a little thinner..and his chest is lighter. The top of Mistics heads is a solid color. I think he has some white. He always looks like hes in a hurry. You will know what I mean when you see him. lol 🙂

  3. At 10:17 May 10, there are 2 hatched babies. She left the nest briefly and came back with breakfast 🙂 Shes a very good mother….

  4. Turning in from Columbus Ohio. Its been reported that our female Durand may have lost her mate. She seems to have given up on her three eggs as well. Happy to see Canton is having better luck.

    • Yes, I am very sorry about Durand also. Do you think she will stay in Columbus, or will she go off to find a new mate?

      • This was her second season here in Columbus with the same mate. A new young male has been spotted so we hope she stays. This was her second failed clutch. Last year she laid 5 eggs that were not viable. Heres hoping next year is a success!!

  5. If you are interested in Mystic’s story and other Falcon’s check out the CMNH Falcon cam site. There are many forums that track these majestic creatures.

  6. On behalf of The Canton Club, I want to thank Abbott Electric, Barb Abbott from Canton Food Tours, Carl Hearne from CMH, and our other sponsors for making this possible. Barb and I had a dream to bring this feed live and without all of the sponsors it wouldn’t have been possible. Keep posted on Falcon Fest at The Canton Club by following us on Facebook. The banding, which is done in our Grand Ballroom, will take place approximately 18 days after the last egg is hatched. Limited seating will be available for this incredible event.

  7. I would also like to thank everyone that made this possible. Watching Mystic’s nest has been an incredible journey. Please continue to make this available to everyone. There are so many life lessons to be learned. Involving elementary teachers and their classes re: watching and perhaps a contest for naming would draw attention to the plight of this incredible bird. Canton is indeed lucky that Mystic has chosen to share her life with us.

  8. Its 12:00 noon. I see one parent and 4 babies. Parent is looking for the other because I think the kids are getting hungry….. Where is the other parent? How long do they usually stay away?

  9. Please visit the CMNH falcon cam (Cleveland Museum of Natural History). Mystic’s story can be found there and updates on a fairly regular basis.

  10. ok – I looked at the other site… So it seems Jo Jo has b een killed earlier, and another, very young falcon is trying to help/court Mystic? Thats pretty neat!! So the babies have a pretty good chance of making it with Mystic’s wisdom and the young ‘un’s energy and willingness to try…….

    • Yes that’s correct. No one knows where the young guy came from but he is trying to step up to the plate. Everything seems to be going well.

      • The unidentified male has been around since Mystic’s nesting began. Needless to say Mystic may be appearing on the Maury Povoch show Who is the daddy? Has all the karma of a reality show Stay tuned!

        • Naahhh- Mystic’s got way too much class for Maury Povoch…. but I could see one of the national news anchors (Diane Sawyer) jumping at the story…. 🙂

  11. this falcon cam is a great way for the kids to learn about nature and man, and how they may co-habit together.

    • I agree There are great happenings in downtown and this is one of them. I would really recommend attending the banding ceremony. ODNR does a fantastic job and it is a great opportunity for adults and children to experience these fantatic birds. We are blessed to have them

  12. I know its a very warm afternoon….is that why the babies are more spread out, with their wings out stretched? Theyre just trying to stay cool, right?

  13. Looking on the forum page, I see they want to call the gallant young falcon who is helping Mystic “Maurice”. Makes me think also of a charming French actor my mom used to swoon over…Maurice Chevalier

  14. Its about 8:00 am. Mystic (I think) is scratching around the nest. Is she cleaning out debris, or moving the stones around to fix up the nest, or both or……? I am a very new newbie, so please just humor me….

  15. Is the camera acting up or is it my computer? Lots of stop image…. Any way, at 4:52 pm the chicks are all sitting in a row with their backs to the camera! I guess its a sit in……. Wonder what they are protesting?

    • I was watching the live feed about the same time & did not see anything wrong. I updated the May archive with new still images from over the weekend.

      • Ok- thanks. Im not surprised- this old computer aint what she used to be…. But watching these chicks is SO fun 🙂

  16. Im very new to this, and am having quite a time trying to identify Maurice….. I was looking at your stills, mr. admin , and Im wondering if #135413 is the boy? I thot so at first, but then wasnt sure after viewing the next picture.

  17. Susan, if you can ever get a good look at their feet..Mistic is banded. You can see them. The boy(Maurice) does not. Also Mistic is much bigger than him. Her chest is mostly white and his has speckles all over it. He always has this look on him like hes in a rush. You will know what I mean when you see it. lol If you look up Canton Falcon Forum, it will come up. Then look for NorthEast Quad..Mistic and the Canton 2012 nest will come up. Some of the pics are Just amazing and the detailed history of this nest year by year is there. 🙂

    • ok- Thanks for the info… Is Mystic usuallly the one who feeds the babies? I dont think Ive seen an unbanded one feeding the babies yet. But I probably just dont happen to be looking when he’s there.

        • Yes, it was Mystic. Maurice has not fed them yet,..buts there sometimes. Mystic is gone alot during the day or just in and out to feed the babies. Where she is at though, she can see still see the nest. Usually, she is with Maurice. 🙂

  18. Susan, You really should join us on the forum. Believe me there a lot of newbies but the great part is the people that have knowledge are so willing to share with you. It only takes a few minutes to register. I’ve learned so much and everyone is so kind.

  19. Yikes!! At 7:58pm all 4 babies are standing at the box opening looking longingly out into the wild yonder… I hope they arent thinking about hopping out of the box!

    • I was thinking the same thing. Won’t be long before the two strongest chicks will be able to hop over the raised edge. Once that happens it would be hard for them to get back inside and I don’t think the mother would help them.

    • Thinking the same thing. If they manage to hop onto the ledge is it boxed in at the end? And it would be real hard to get back up or that raised edge on the box without some help but i don’t think the mom would help them by dragging one back in. Could be wrong though.

  20. Wow! They are growing by the hour I think. Had a great look at mom/pop Saturday morning perching on side of nesting box. A wonderful sight!!!! Fingers crossed all 4 youngsters make it.

    • Cute video this morning. Mom perched on the raised part of the nest entrance, two little ones by her side laying down with their necks on the perch all looking out at the world. I’d like to know what kind of a view they have from that point.

  21. At 5:00 Mystic visited the babies but had no food. She hung out with her babies for a bit, now she’s perched on one foot on the edge of the box. (Bad example for the kids, mom) Is she waiting for Maurice to bring supper?

    • I’ve seen her bring a couple birds back over the past few days. Saturday it was BlueJay. Sunday i couldn’t tell she was already into tearing it up. But i happened to log on just as she flew back into the nest with the Jay. I’d say it took a good 45 minutes to de feather and feed the 4. There are two that look bigger and they seem to get the lion’s share of the bounty.

  22. 7:50, time for supper. Can’t tell what she’s got on the table. This time she’s facing the camera and all the chicks are lined up in a row facing her, too cute!

  23. Must have caught the end of supper because she took what was left (looked like a wing) and flew the coop so she could also have a little.

  24. Hi folks! Its nice to have someone to talk to…. Yes these babies can be really hilarious at times. And I have to laugh when Mystic perches on top of the box instead of going in with the babies. (just a little “me” time for Mystic.) I have seen a picture of the babies box, and I do not think there is any “lip” to help keep roaming babies inside… I have not read anywhere that they have lost chicks from this box due to falling out… I dont seemto have much luck catching Mystic bringing in food… I watched for 65 minutes straight last night, having just seen her leave, and thinking shed be back with food. Oh well, thanks for your falcon menu description, Willy. Did you notice, Karen, how one of the bigger babies seems especiallly alert? Always watching mom or gazing out the window box. I look at the CMNH forum now and then. Theyve noticed it to. And there are some WONDERFUL

  25. hey= I wasnt done yet! … Some WONDERFUL photos taken of Mystic and Maurice (the wonder boy) flying. Scroll down under the comment box.See the 2nd blue line that says Second thread on CMNH forum? Click on that and it will take you over to the forum. Lots of good into…

    • The two bigger chicks are usually gazing out the front. I’ve seen both try to put their claws on the rail already! It won’t be long before one or both hop over the edge into the landing tray. Id’s give it another couple weeks. Pretty funny watching all of them lumber around inside. I hope they all survive but four is a lot especially with two dominant chicks getting and staying first in line for food. I see lots of feathers inside, so birds gotta be the main course.

  26. OK- I visited the forum just now, and some more pictures are up. Some show the outside of the nest box, and Mystic seems to be perched at the edge, which I think means there is some kind of a lip there….

  27. 2:55 Just caught the last few bites of early dinner/late lunch. Couldn’t tell what was on the menu but she seems to always take a good chunk and leaves the nest area.

  28. They are going to band the baby falcons today at 10:00! I hope they leave the camera on because in a photo I saw somewhere there is a door in the back of the nest box that they just open and reach in to retreive the babies…. And sometimes the parents are not happy!

  29. I just looked at the video, and guess who is right at the dooor? Little miss busy body 🙂 As usual nibbling on a feather….

  30. does anyone know what happens after the babies learn to fly? will they still share this nest? its gonna be a sad day for me after they go!! i love watching this

  31. Oh my gosh! It’s 10:45 AM, Mystic is standing on the edge of the nesting box & the babies are NOWHERE to be found!!!! I saw thm in the nesting box around 9:30 AM. Any ideas?

  32. Well Mystic was sure upset when they came to get the babies. And was very frantic as she looked at the emply box. Looked like she was making some kind of fearful cry… I never saw Maurice at all. I wonder if Mystic was wishing her mate last year (Maverick) was still here… Funny tho, when they finally put the babies back, Mystic did not go right in to see them.. I wonder if shes getting some lunch to bring back? Chickies looked a little stressed by the whole deal.

    • Mo was there. He was flying around and screaming. He was in the close area when Mystic first started screaming and there very quickly. But just flew around yelling. Mystic was SO LOUD right away. I couldnt see the people taking them from where I was, just how falcons were re-acting. All the people on the street had to look up with all the comotion. lol.
Yes Susan. Ill just post on this site. I wont log back into the drama hall again. 🙂

        • What is going on with my computer_ sends messages before Im done? Anyway, Mystic was REALLY upset!!!! How did the babies seem? I wondered if some were more aggressive, and some more easy going. 2 girls and 2 boys!!

  33. Just to put everyones mind at ease about the nesting box, there is a ledge. I have the honor of seeing these guys everyday when at the Canton Club. As they grow they will venture out of the box and run around on the ledge. It’s not uncommon seeing them walk on all the ledges to the delight of our guests. There have been times when there has been a premature jump but all have lived. Our building manager will call ODNR when we have an excapee and they responded right away. The excapee is then returned to the nest. It’s easy to know we have an escape, momma Mystic gets very loud i hope thatthose who attended the banding today enjoyed themselves.

  34. ok Chuck, thanks for the info…. So these guys get pretty agile as they get bigger? I hope someone will take and post pictures of the babies walking along the ledge. By the way, anybody know where Maurice was ?

    • Yes soon they will be out of the box and their white.feathers will soon disappear. They then fledge and are taught how to hunt by their parents. They do this by dropping prey in mid air and the babies catching it. We will make an attempt to post some pics of them on the ledges
