Ive been watching for a little more than an hour, and have not seen Mystic yet… I need to do some errands so Ill be away from my computer. Anyone who sees Mystic come to the box please post it so we know shes ok.
The babies have two bands on one leg with the letters and numbers and one on the other leg to tell if they are boys or girls, I believe the girls were banded purple. Two were out for a walk. I saw Mystic I thought maybe she was telling Mo to bring food.
Oh my heart! I know I can have an overactive imagination, but I was worried an intruding hawk was harrassing Maurice! Thanks for letting me know – I wish I could have seen the girls out on their walk….
Rebecca, Mystic was absent a lot yesterday too. Another person who posts said Mystic had come just before 6 yest. morning, and she didnt come again til 1:20 in the afternoon…. She said this may be the point in the chicks development when momma starts staying away more….
Wait to they get their wings & they start to leave the nest.
Will they do good in school?
Will they watch each others back?
Will they hang with the good birds?
Will they return before dark?
Will they phone home if they will be late?
Will they have they own family?
Will they return to visit with their extended family?
Oh wait…….. Are we talking about our kids or the falcon chicks?
I think maybe. But since he takes pictures of the adults, makes videos of the hatching and banding, updates the stills when he’s busy for us to look for Mystic, I will probably let him get away with it. This time.
How true… almost one and the same. They are delightful to watch.
Hi Vickie- you sound like me for the first 4 weeks that I watched the babies…. LOL I have never seen Maurice, the male, bring food in. Its always been Mystic, the mom. Mystic is bigger, and has a light colored breast. Maurice is actually a juvenile falcon, and has lots of up and down brown stripes on his chest. Also he has no bands on his legs. I was able to get a better idea of what Maurice looks like from checking the2nd thread on the CMNH forum (see just below the comment box) There are some very nice pictures of both Maurice and Mystic there.
I think Maurice was in the nest box a few minutes ago feeding the babies (around 9:25 pm). Hard to see striping in the glare but the size relative to the babies was smaller than the Mystic pictures. The babies were all lined up in a row; he was pulling meat off his kill and and stuffing it down their open beaks. Now he’s gone and they’re a big fluff pile as they huddle up to sleep for a while.
I didn’t see any walkers today but I did notice Mystic left some food in the box and they were feeding themselves a bit. Training I would imagine. She’s a very good Mom.
About freaked when I checked in around 11:50 and the nest only had one chick! Soon I saw the other three out on the porch. And soon after they all hopped back in with little effort.
It may be time to hold onto our hats. A friend from the forum said we are about to see amazing things. Not for the faint of heart. We’ll have to man up Susan.
OOOHHHH BOY! I feel like Im 12 yrs old waiting to go on the biggest baddest roller coaster – kinda happy but shaking in my boots too! We wont be able to view much of the goings on from the webcam, will we?
Have an idea for an end of the season slide show. There’s a great song by Leonard
Cohen, Hallelujah, I like the Bon Jovi version but there are many good ones. A slide show of all the photos yours, Chad and Chris’s and any other Falcons from this season that you would chose with the song as the background. Run your photos of Mystic and Maurice with it in the background. It’s very beautiful. I know you have so much time on your hands. It’s very moving. Just a thought for a wrap up.
Lunch time at 11:35. Couldn’t tell what it was, head seemed to be missing. Looked gray is all I could tell, but she stands over it and it’s not visible. It was smallish but probably some kind of bird. I think a Peregrine would take small mammals if it had no other choices.
Whoops! Did you see that? One of the llittle ones was trying to get around Mystics tail, and got bumped out of the box onto the porch accidently! He looked a little perplexed….
Yay! All four present and accounted for. When the little guy got back in the nest from the porch, I think you could pretty much say he flew in. I dont think he used his feet at all!
In another week or so when they’ve got all their feathers and the down is gone they would probably be able to survive an accidental fall to the ground or even fly. I don’t think being a bird you get too many practice attempts.
OK… how about a really stupid question…. With all of the down that they are removing, where is it? It seems to me that there would be a sea of small white down floating around. I sit and watch them and dont even see it floating… Like I said, how about a stupid question?
There is a paid parking lot below..Ive seen feathers and left overs from dinner before..I cant say Ive seen the fuzzies..but I havent been up in a few days lol
Thank you. I have seen some blowing away, but with 4 of them it seems like there should be more. This is my first year to watch them, and I guess I have a lot of questions. I really like it when Mystic is there when I go to bed, I feel so much safer for those chicks.
Yes, I agree. I said before when she started leaving for long periods..Canton is not a good place late at night for a mother of 4. lol Get home Mystic!! 🙂
The down come out slowly enough that it just floats away and you never notice it. I’m certain if you actually looked inside the box in person, you’d see some. And your question isn’t stupid, I’ve wondered the same myself.
Thank you so much. I an addicted to these falcon chicks and Mystic is beautiful. I have bird feerder in my yard and everyonce in a while I see a Coopers or Red tail Hawk. But watching these chicks is amazing. Thanks Willy
We have hawks buzzards crows cranes and owls plus every kind.of other bird you could think of here in North Canton. Hoover Park is responsible for the waterfowl. I have a couple kinds of hummingbirds as my backyard ends at dogwood park.
Sounds wonderful. My front yard overlooks a lake, so I have had baby turtles, baby squirrels and baby ducklings, I truly enjoy watching God’s creations. Every one of them has its own beauty and uniqueness. Thanks again for the info you made me feel a lot less stupid.
I believe I see a unidentified tail and feet on the upper right side of the box 🙂
I saw all four walk from the back of the box to the front and look out. All in a lineup.
Seemed to me the size difference between them has lessend. But like all other birds being sexually dimorphic, in the Peregrine’s case the female is the larger of the sexes. Not sure if that hold true with just falcons or if it is a trait among all predatory birds.
Yes, the 2 girls are a lil bigger than Bravery and Atticus..and with their feathers coming in..are making it a lil hard to tell them apart. I look for Peenie every single time Im watching. 🙂
yes, I think he is one of the “boy” falcons, Atticus or Bravery. He doesnt go out on the porch very often, and hes usually last one out of the box and first one b ack….
Peenie is a Scottish female name and Lula means warrior. Bravery needs no explanation and Atticus is named for Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.
Sure wish the admin would figure out why the video streaming is so erratic. When it does actually work it only works for a bit then freezes. Today it’s been offline most of the morning. These chicks are rapidly morphing into adults and it would be nice to catch most of it live.
You know what it is? All of our spouses or significant others complained that all we do all day is sit at our computer and watch the chicks! So admin has turned it off for a bit so we’d finally get some work done around the house….
LOL You are probably right. However I work at home part time on the PC err MackBook Pro so it’s usually on anyway. Otherwise, I’ve retired a bit early in life so I no longer have a 9 to 5 to clock into.
New stills have been moved over, so you may be able to catch up on the changes of today.
Hey Mr. Admin, I forget…..where have you moved the stills over to, and how do I get there? And now – I didnt realize you had a video up of Mystic AND Maurice with the chicks back in May.Its so fun to watch Maurice try awkwardly sit on the chicks, and Mystic comes swooping in with supper!! And Mo makes a hasty retreat 🙂
Thanks, Cheryl…Here’s a question for you- I live about 40 min. away from Canton. I dont get over there very often, mostly Dr. visits… Would it be worth the effort for me to go to the building where the falcons live just to hang out and watch? Is it a dangerous part of town? Would it be better if my husband was with me? Or is the webcam the best seat in town?
The falcon nest is near the very top of the Chase Bank Bldg. on the square in downtown Canton. It is in one of the
“safer” areas of downtown Canton. My
husband and I were down there Sunday
afternoon when the traffic was very light.
Since the nest is located so high, nothing is available to see from the ground. We walked around the outside
of the building, but could not see the nest. The falcon webcam is the best way to observe the young ones and Mystic, too. I am very interested in the falcons and check on them several times each day. Hope this helps you.

Well @ 10:00am I see three are back in view. Wish that camera covered the whole nest and deck. There must be a lot of room off camera for 4 large chicks to lounge around.
yes, it would be great if somehow they could pull the camera back a bit so we could see the whole porch. But I guess we need to be thankful for what we have. I think we are one of only a few nests that has a webcam… Also, when you were talking about the chicks “lounging” around on the porch, I my mind’s eye they were laying out on beach towels, with brightly colored sunglasses…. (OK, so my brain is wired a little weird…)
LOL! I try to be light hearted in my writing and entertain who I am having dialog with. I’m the same way in person. I guess being a musician for 25 years affects you off stage also. Anyway, yes we are very fortunate to have any video at all and even though I complain at times I’m still very appreciative for the equipment and expense to get this out on the net. I see 3 now, haven’t seen all 4 since last night late when Mystic was standing in front of all 4 sleeping in a row from front to back. I hope they are all ok and maybe I can catch a feeding to get a head count.
Is it always the same chick that is so quiet? I often see 3 actively running around and one is often just sleeping. Is that normal for one chick to be so quiet?

Akron has had Falcons for years, the only pictures I get to see are in the newspaper. We are so lucky to get to watch these beautiful birds of prey.
The site is being watched from all over the world. I posted the stats so far this year here. Japan, Canada, Great Britan, France & Germany are the top 5 under the United Stats.
Being a musician I know Carl Hern the owner of CMH. Haven’t seen him in a while so he probably doesn’t remember me. I’m going to take a couple guitar speakers over to him for repair one of these days. And I would like to take this opportunity to thank the others for

Too funny! One chick, who is on the porch, is nibbling Hard on another chicks toe! The one being nibbled on politely pecked the nibblers head, and stepped back into the box.
Thanks for your reply, Stephanie, I really would like to go up there to view Mystic and Mo. I thot maybe there would b e more to see when the babies have fledged and are being trained to hunt… My husband says hed like to come too, so wed have to work it into his schedule….
I see one of the largest chicks with a hunk of meat tearing away at it. Maybe it’s time for mom to just rip dinner up into larger chunks now and let the chicks feed themselves?
Two chicks looking for lunch. One bigger, one smaller… Peenie and Atticus? 🙂
Did you know that in urban slang the word peenie stands for a small penis? I’m surprised the DOW would accept that as a name.
Just an FYI.
Ive been watching for a little more than an hour, and have not seen Mystic yet… I need to do some errands so Ill be away from my computer. Anyone who sees Mystic come to the box please post it so we know shes ok.
The administor kindly loaded the stills for me. I found her at 5:58 this morning but that’s the last I see her.
Oh there she is now. Scare me why don’t you? Maybe she won’t feed as often, I’ll have to ask the experts.
Ah… Its 1:20 and Mystic the Magnificent has arrived!! 🙂
And she only stayed 4 minutes – thats a quick feed!
And she’s back again. This may be the point when she starts to stay away more. I couldn’t find her on the stills during the night at all.
The second one has a purple band also.
Hey Cheryl, I just got home, and Mystic seems upset about something. Your post says something about a purple band… was there another falcon around?
Hey- whats going on? Mystic is out on the porch more or less facing the chicks but shes “clucking” about something. Like shes warning the chicks?
Pleeeez someone tell me what happened !?
Well, Mystic left while I was posting, and now her little apprentice is standing watch…. 🙂
I have not seen Mystic since yesterday 6/6 afternoon or this morning is this normal?
Don’t know, I just moved over the last 15 hours of stills to the June archive if you like to see if you spot her.
Rebecca, Mystic was absent a lot yesterday too. Another person who posts said Mystic had come just before 6 yest. morning, and she didnt come again til 1:20 in the afternoon…. She said this may be the point in the chicks development when momma starts staying away more….
And there she is !!! Chicks look happy to see her!
Thanks for the still updates admin. We must all be worriers. Guess Mystic knows best. Time to become a little more independent?
Wait to they get their wings & they start to leave the nest.
Will they do good in school?
Will they watch each others back?
Will they hang with the good birds?
Will they return before dark?
Will they phone home if they will be late?
Will they have they own family?
Will they return to visit with their extended family?
Oh wait…….. Are we talking about our kids or the falcon chicks?
LOLOLOL Good one.
Is someone making just a little bit of fun of us? 🙂
I think maybe. But since he takes pictures of the adults, makes videos of the hatching and banding, updates the stills when he’s busy for us to look for Mystic, I will probably let him get away with it. This time.
How true… almost one and the same. They are delightful to watch.

Anybody see the girls go for a porch walk today?
I didn’t see any walkers today but I did notice Mystic left some food in the box and they were feeding themselves a bit. Training I would imagine. She’s a very good Mom.
LOL I guess in a way she’s been training Maurice, too 🙂
You know, I feel really yucky from my allergies today, but I take just one look at these babies, and ya just have to smile…..
Beautiful Mystic feeding the chicks. LOVE IT
About freaked when I checked in around 11:50 and the nest only had one chick! Soon I saw the other three out on the porch. And soon after they all hopped back in with little effort.
SWEEEEET !!!
They may not be as small and fuzzy as they were but they are still very cute with their clumsy big feet fumbling about in and out of the box! ♥
It may be time to hold onto our hats. A friend from the forum said we are about to see amazing things. Not for the faint of heart. We’ll have to man up Susan.
Almost seems they are changing by the hour.
OOOHHHH BOY! I feel like Im 12 yrs old waiting to go on the biggest baddest roller coaster – kinda happy but shaking in my boots too! We wont be able to view much of the goings on from the webcam, will we?

Why is she hanging tonight? Does she think it’s First Friday again?
Canton Blues Festival Friday & Saturday
Mystic is keeping watch tonight. Somehow that makes me feel better as I head to bed.
WOW Feeding on the porch. How awesome.
The one that stayed in the nest box… got nothing. Maybe Mystic is off to get more. I am glad I didn’t miss this feeding time.
There was one bopping around on the porch, but I havent seen it walk past the camera for several minutes now?
Lunch time at 11:35. Couldn’t tell what it was, head seemed to be missing. Looked gray is all I could tell, but she stands over it and it’s not visible. It was smallish but probably some kind of bird. I think a Peregrine would take small mammals if it had no other choices.

I was watching earlier and thought one went over the ledge..but she came back. lol

I agree. If they fall out or jump to fast and far(LOL) they should be alright 🙂
OK… how about a really stupid question…. With all of the down that they are removing, where is it? It seems to me that there would be a sea of small white down floating around. I sit and watch them and dont even see it floating… Like I said, how about a stupid question?
Maybe it blew away in the wind.
There is a paid parking lot below..Ive seen feathers and left overs from dinner before..I cant say Ive seen the fuzzies..but I havent been up in a few days lol

Hey- This is first time that Ive seen all Fab Four out on the porch! Three Cheers !!
I know mine’s prettier than yours but leave my band alone. If you’re not careful I’m gunna poop on you.
Baby falcon 2 sez “I’m telling mom…! MOMMMMMMMM !
I saw all four walk from the back of the box to the front and look out. All in a lineup.

Yes, the 2 girls are a lil bigger than Bravery and Atticus..and with their feathers coming in..are making it a lil hard to tell them apart. I look for Peenie every single time Im watching. 🙂
You’re right admin I forgot about the Blues festival. Until BB and Clapton come I think I’ll stay home. Now that’s the Blues.
it seems as though one chick is very timid and stays in the corner alot
yes, I think he is one of the “boy” falcons, Atticus or Bravery. He doesnt go out on the porch very often, and hes usually last one out of the box and first one b ack….

Thanks for the info. May the all have a long life.
Could have named one Harley and one Davidson!
Yes, but these are falcons, not hawgs…. 🙂
LMAO 🙂

Im thinking he probably wishes he could figure it out too….
You know what it is? All of our spouses or significant others complained that all we do all day is sit at our computer and watch the chicks! So admin has turned it off for a bit so we’d finally get some work done around the house….
Susan you must have accumulated laundry also.
Yup! Got some done today! 🙂
LOL You are probably right. However I work at home part time on the PC err MackBook Pro so it’s usually on anyway. Otherwise, I’ve retired a bit early in life so I no longer have a 9 to 5 to clock into.

Yes, thankyou, that is helpful… this falcon family is so fascinating….. 🙂
There is a falcon nest that has been occupied for nearly two decades at the top of a tall building in downtown Indianapolis. There’s a webcam, but as the eyases start to fly, a volunteer “Falcon Patrol” sets up shifts during the day downtown. They use spotting scopes and binoculars to keep track of the birds on their early flights and notify DNR when they need to do rescues when the birds fall onto the street or get stuck on part of a building and can’t get out. This has saved several falcon lives over the years. The funniest time was late one afternoon when I was walking on Monument Circle. There was a hook-and-ladder fire truck up against the Monument. It turned out that one of the babies had gotten his foot stuck in part of the sculpture and couldn’t get loose. I see one of the largest chicks with a hunk of meat tearing away at it. Maybe it’s time for mom to just rip dinner up into larger chunks now and let the chicks feed themselves?
LOL! Tug of War for the meat!
My video kept stopping- did Mystic bring it in, drop it and leave? The one chick seemed to want the Whole Thing!
OK- What am I seeing now? It looks like some food was brought while I was posting, and one chicking is hogging the whole thing?! :- O
Oh Man – If she eats that feather she’s gonna have a tickle in her throat for a long time…..
